It's 7:34am. I just finished watching Perfect Blue and naturally needed to dump my thoughts on geopolitics and what's next.
Somewhere between now and 2030, the world you know will stop existing. As AI is applied in the economy, we’re going to feel it more and more. The only question is whether we build what comes next together or slip backward into technofeudalism.
This isn't a prediction. It's already happening.

US and China: Next 7 Years
My current bet: we all have to be ready for a world where China continues to advance beyond the US technologically for the next 7 years.[5]
The US is better off in a scenario where there are lots of novel bottlenecks in AI advancement—where purely throwing more compute at the problem doesn't allow China to pull far ahead and enjoy compounding wins.
We need time to catch up on energy production.
But here's the paradox: if it takes too long, the economy will completely collapse.
Maybe there's an ideal scenario where AI can be deployed in the economy enough to keep things afloat while getting Americans acclimated to the burgeoning digital era and the weight of not being the unquestionable ruling hegemony—while simultaneously allowing us to rely on our advantage in novel innovation and talent to stay ahead of China in terms of AI's military capabilities such that Taiwan remains in stalemate.

Energy: The Bottleneck We Can't Ignore
We need to build nuclear energy, solar energy, and say a huge FUCK YOU to the oil companies lobbying to keep fossil fuels dominant over the grid. In a non corrupt system they should still make up a significant amount of the grid but we have to leave the past behind and embrace a sustainable future.
My opinion: to a large degree, the American Oil lobby is the reason AI will have a horrific ecological and environmental impact.
God damn. We really need to produce more energy and quickly. I think we need to start building off-grid nuclear energy fully devoted to data centers. Is that possible? We need to keep the energy consumption of data centers from driving up electricity costs for citizens and keep citizens safe from any pollution related to dirty diesel-chugging emergency power generators like Elon's XAI resorted to outside of Memphis, TN.[1]
Additionally, we need commitments with weight behind them from the White House around UBI or other policy on what happens to the working class and impoverished Americans in an AI economy. What prevents this from further redistributing wealth away from the American people into the hands of the wealthy? What happens over the next 30-50 years as the value of labor as a bargaining chip for unions and workers continually diminishes?
We also have to hold off BRICS[2]—the intergovernmental group of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and others—from creating a viable alternative to the US dollar as the global reserve currency for oil[3] at least for the time being otherwise we will lose the power necessary to continue operating at a multi trillion dollar deficit in which the interest on the national debt is greater than our entire military budget. If we fail to do so, the US risks bankruptcy and our lives as we know them with it.[4]
We're going to have to cut regulations related to building up the energy sector. There's no other way here.
Social Issues: The Wins We Keep Fucking Up
Immigration: We must keep the American dream alive and well for all people including immigrants. We must provide a path to legitimate and permanent citizenship even for illegal immigrants based on their behavior once they are in the United States.
While we take massive bets on AI, we must make even bigger bets on the American people. With unique attention and solutions for the main demographic groups.
We must remove the hindrances blocking Americans from having kids and living their fullest lives.
Let's subsidize education for the degrees that will result in America pulling far ahead of any competitors in energy production among other fields.
Trans Rights: Stop persecuting trans people. Let's accept them as: okay this is a little weird, maybe we don't get it, but if all lives matter then so too do trans lives, you fucking hypocrites. How dare they deny the right and the honor of trans people to serve in the US military.
Economic Justice: We must help poor Americans pull ahead. We must reverse the hollowing of the middle class at any cost.
If we can bankroll these corporations, we can bankroll the people of America.
We saw during Covid that this is possible and we demand the extension of crisis-level social services.
We demand:
- $1000 investment accounts and free child care for every American child born starting ASAP
- That every woman have the right to abortion
- Just as America's right and libertarian wings demanded that we have the right to choose whether or not to get vaccinated (you fucking hypocrites)
Closing Thoughts
Our lives as we know them are going to change vastly between now and 2030. The less privilege you have, the more this will hurt.
Community is our path forward. We must radically bridge even the most different and contradicting social groups through soft skills, thoughtful communication, unrelenting facilitation, and active participation.
The world is more complex than any human being or even human beings in aggregate can understand. We are entering a time that calls for unprecedented collaboration.
Please take action. Please invest in yourself and your community. Please take political action. Please study viewpoints you disagree with.
We can still avoid a China-led techno-authoritarian regime with mass proliferation of surveillance to the point that 1984 looks like a cake walk for much of the world.
America—flawed though we may be—can transform into a sustainable vehicle for all Americans, gracefully step back from its role as a corrupt, interventionist empire over the next 10–20 years, and offer a model for other countries in navigating into the digital age.
What You Can Do Right Now
I can't provide a smooth bridge from the macro to the local. No one can. There's no neat line connecting "BRICS threatens dollar hegemony" to "buy your unhoused neighbor a phone" without lying about how comprehensible any of this is. The gap is real. The whiplash is the point.
Let's not let that stop us from acting. You matter. Do what you can even if that's just keeping going today.
Dream dream dream dream dream.
Gathering is mandatory.
Invest in your local community spaces. Buy a prepaid cellphone for an unhoused member of your local community.
Pull your friends closer. Say I love you and mean it outside of romantic contexts.
Say "times are weird right now, I just wanted to let you know that I love you as a friend."
And most of all, love yourself unconditionally.
Look in the mirror and say "I love you, me."
If you need help, message me.
I stand by any and all members of my community. There is forgiveness and acceptance for all outside or inside of a religious context through accountability, growth, love, acceptance and transformation. Faith can also be a path toward this for those who are comfortable with it.
Read a book by a black author. Understand why people do things that you find irrational. Understand how problems can be systemic rather than the fault of any individual. Read about the worst atrocities committed by human kind and the conditions in which they arose. Be grateful. If you’re reading this, odds are you have relatively great privilege compared to most human beings on earth.
I am going to buy a prepaid cellphone for my unhoused friend today.
A Note on These Views
All opinions are my own and are subject to change. I have a unique viewpoint as an autodidact, transgender founder, community builder, and leader. I am spiritual and scientific.
I value openness and authenticity. I encourage earnest debate that is grounded in hard evidence. I realize that I didn't provide much empirical data here but that's cause I randomly typed this all in the middle of the night.
I have always sought to find balance between global and local events. I avoid throwing out the baby with the bathwater even in the most extreme circumstances.
These viewpoints express my earnest attempt at a working model of earth and the people of earth. My world model, if you will. This is one of multiple pieces of context that informs my actions day to day and long term as well as my interpretations of new information.
Next Dreamshare Monthly
I have a lot on my plate but I'm working as smart as I can to ensure that the first Dreamshare roundtable takes place on Sunday January 18th. This will be a smaller event with freeform programming where we discuss updates on our dreams etc. We'll have snacks and N/A drinks. Bring some coffee and a notebook.
A luma event will be created and shared via email within the next few days.
